Patrick, an avid agriculturalist, visited his relatives in Grafton over the Christmas break. He immediately fell in love with the farming community in Grafton and decided to make a major relocation move from his well-paid hairdressing job in Perth to Grafton to become a blueberry farmer, a family tradition. Uncle Sam was immensely happy on hearing Patricks news announced over the Family Reunion Dinner on New Years Eve. Patrick had not been in contact with his Grafton relatives since his parents moved to Perth when Patrick was five years old, some twenty years ago. Uncle Sam, of course, could always use extra help on the farm. In fact, he had recently advertised for a farm assistant.
After the festive jubilations, Patrick returned to Perth to prepare for both his career and location move. On Australia Day, he received a telephone call from Uncle Sam, and the following was what had transpired:
Uncle Sam: Patrick, my dear, dear nephew, you dont know how happy I am that youre coming to live with us and carry on our age-old family tradition of blueberry farming. You know, our blueberries are the pride of the Grafton crop! We always win at the Annual Farmers Festival and no doubt, you will do the same when you get here. Tellyawhat, no need for you to worry about giving up your hairdressing job, you can start immediately on Farm Plot marked 101 on weekly pay of $1000. You know the adjacent cottage? Well, you can buy it for $200,000 if you like. You know, its worth twice that!
Patrick: Uncle Sam, I am as equally delighted at this fantastic opportunity. I think farming is in my blood! Thank you for being so kind to me and we can work out the details later.
Shortly after the above telephone exchange, Patrick moved to Grafton. He was interested in purchasing the cottage. Patrick and Uncle Sam sat down and drafted the Sale Contract subject to Patrick obtaining finance, building and pest inspections, and other terms and conditions as deemed necessary by Uncle Sams solicitors.
On Valentines Day, Patrick declared his love for Evita, daughter of Uncle Sams arch rival in blueberry farming in Grafton. This led, unfortunately, to their relationship breakdown and Uncle Sam now wants Patrick to leave and will not sell the cottage to him.
