Question 2 Fairytales
Q.2.1 Based on your prior knowledge of fairytales, write an original fairytale in which you engage with form, imagery and themes that capture the spirit of the well-known fairytales prescribed in Unit 3.
The subject matter of the fairytale is up to you you may write about whatever you like, so long as it captures the essence of the fairytale genre and its didactic tendencies.
The style and structure of the fairytale is also up to you. You are advised to use the fairytales prescribed in Learning Unit 3 as inspiration. Ensure that your choice of style and structure are maintained consistently throughout the fairytale.
Marks will be awarded both for creativity and for employing appropriate narrative devices to enhance your fairytales effect on the reader.
Your lecturer will use the rubric provided to evaluate your fairytale, so make sure that you are satisfied that all components are evident and of a high standard before submitting your fairytale.
Q.2.2 Write a mini essay (approximately 600 words) in which you explain and justify the thematic and stylistic choices you made in the creation of your fairytale. To do this, you will need to explain how your fairytale was influenced by the prescribed fairytalesin Unit 3. You must reflect directly on at least one prescribed fairytale from Unit 3 that inspired your own tale. In your essay you must make reference to at least two credible sources to support your critical reflection, for example the prescribed readings by Zipes or Deluse (Unit 3). You may use other sources as required. All sources used in this essay must be accurately referenced using the Harvard method, both in-text and in a reference list.
Your lecturer will use the rubric provided to evaluate the quality of your mini essay. As such, you should ensure that you are satisfied that all components of your mini essay are present and of a high standard before submitting your assignment.
