This assignment is designed to help you engage with a range of ideas about team working in the contemporary workplace. But rather than just soaking up this knowledge like a sponge and re-presenting it in an assignment, we are interested in helping you to develop a questioning approach and critically analyse the evidence and perspectives with which you are presented.
The following questions are a useful set of prompts to help you start critically analysing each of the three sources:
1. What is the source of the information?
2. Who is the author?
3. When was it written?
4. Why was it written? What were their motives/target audience?
5. What is the key message/argument?
6. What evidence are their claims based on?
7. How does it sit with other evidence/perspectives?
A specific session on the assignment in week four will elaborate on this approach, with examples.
Of course, once you have analysed the three sources and reached a conclusion about their relative merits as a source of advice for developing team working in the workplace, you then have to present a written account of your views. This needs to be well argued, drawing on appropriate evidence to support the claims you are making. The assignment preparation session will also provide advice on how to structure and present your critical analysis.
The primary focus of this assignment is your analysis of the three articles supplied. Very limited additional reading is required; it should relate solely to supporting specific points you want to make arising from your analysis. Note that the assessment criteria on page 2 do not focus on broad and deep additional reading.
