DIRECTIONS: This week you are to find a company with annual reports available on the Internet (publicly available annual reports is a requirement for stock held companies). You then need to make 2 headings: (1) Introduction with background of the company (see assignment for specifics). This heading should be about 1-1.5 pages. Then (2) under a heading of “Problem Statement” a single intro sentence followed by a paragraph (or two) about the problem. The first sentence will be “The problem at XYZ to be addressed in this analysis is abc…”. The problem needs to be strategic (not operational or tactical). Often a concern for growing or maintain market share is a strategic problem. This section is typically less than half a page long. No cover page is needed; the total document should be 2 pages or so plus references immediately after the body, do not get carried away! Be succinct and to the point. Use the company web site or an annual report for background on the company. Introduction: Under the first heading of Introduction, write an introduction/ overview of a company listed on the stock exchange (check to be sure they have annual reports available online). Describe the company and their product(s)/service(s), a brief history, their vision and mission (if they do not have formal statements describe what you feel they might be) the industry they are in, their size (sales, income, number of employees), and your perception of their competitive advantage(s). State what the companys goal may be ($xx sale for the coming year, for instance, or a certain percentage of profit). Under the next heading, Problem Statement: After doing background reading on the company, write a Problem Statement consisting of a single sentence describing a problem at the organization (it can be related to marketing, operations, finances, personnel). State the problem in a sentence: The problem at xxx is xxxx. Provide a short background about the problem. Headings, cites and references, and font (Times New Roman 12) are to be in APA format. When using information from sources to support your analysis, be sure to cite the sources, indicate quoted passages and reference sources at the end of the document. Please be sure that you are citing any sources used as a resource (Jones, 2015) and listing that source as a reference. If the content is word for word it needs to be in quote marks with an in-body cite containing a page or paragraph number (Jones, 2015, para. 5) and a reference.
