To access the journal article, go to the library home page, click on the journal icon and type Journal of Sociolinguistics into the space provided. Once you have logged into this site, search for the article by journal number and issue (Number 20, Issue 3). You will now have a list of articles. Skim the abstracts to see if any of these might be of use to you when you do your assessment. Download (and keep a copy) of the Bailey et al. (2016) article. After you have finished reading this article, write a brief description of your language ideology and post it to this forum. I want to see the file and work as students’ work As long as I am coming from An Arabic background the ideology that describes my language acquisition can be explained as pragmatic English. Being a teacher for English in an Arabic country for more than ten years did not address me as a perfect English language speaker. Another reason makes me feel pragmatic is the nature of the atmosphere that surrounds me. It is possibly of a social concern where English is not practiced or used as the first language. It can be said that ideologies are variant. Moreover, there can be a lot of reasons for acquiring (English). One of these reasons is the necessity of learning foreign language according to Bailey, Canagarajah, Lan and Powers, 2016 and looking for a prestige position requires to learn any language in addition to Arabic. In fact, this kind of requirement makes me feel secured in terms of job availability considering the new development in an Arabic developing country like Saudi Arabia; manufactories, many universities and many new developing policies. Briefly many chances restricted and framed by one condition (English). What mentioned is a demand to transfer the country and its people where I belong to from the third world countries to the first world advanced countries which mean converting the society from a monolingual society to become a bilingual one. Nowadays life and requirements in Saudi Arabia is overwhelmed by English language believing it as the language of the global. As an experience, it has been so encouraging to be mingled with native speakers four years ago in the United States and now in Australia, this kind of experience gave me a quite negative attitude towards using English with the native speakers. This kind of impression makes me hesitant and feels pragmatic and the reason behind that is the weak background I have about the English culture and how far I have to know about their little details which keeps me away from staying in touch with the locals.
