            In this article, the authors conducted a systematic literature review on the main topics related to integration of management systems (MSs) in business organizations. The main ideas expressed in the article include the integrated management systems’ (IMS’s) critical success factors, the setbacks associated with non-integrated management systems, the motivations behind the implementation of IMS, the standards and guidelines for IMS implementation, and the benefits of IMS. The article targets the general audience as it is written using non-technical terms. The major limitation of the article is that it is largely based on a conceptual framework rather than on empirical evidence. It is relevant to my research topic because it provides an overview of the various management systems for business organizations.

            In this article, the authors sought to examine whether Management Information System (MIS) can provide managers with timely and accurate information to assist in the decision making process as well as facilitate effective organizational control, planning, and operational functions. The research focuses on the various information technologies including the Internet, Voice Mail, E-Mail, and telephone and on how the information collected by such technologies can aid in the decision making process. The study found out that MIS facilitates the management to get answers regarding the most appropriate operational and tactical strategies for the business to gain a competitive advantage in the industry. This argument is supported by a number of researchers in the field of business management. This research article is relevant to my research topic because MIS is part of the business management systems.

Cao, Q., Thompson, M. A. & Triche, J. (2013). Investigating the role of business processes and knowledge management systems on performance. A multi-case approach. International Journal of Production Research, 51(18), 5565-5575.

            The authors draw on the so-called task-technology fit theory to examine the alignment of fit between technology (knowledge management systems) and business process and the impact of such processes on the utilization of knowledge management systems. The authors conducted a thorough literature review on the effect of both knowledge management utilization and task-technology fit on organizational and individual performance. The authors’ main study was then based on the task-technology fit as the theoretical background. This theory is supported by prominent researchers in the field of knowledge management (KM).  The major limitation of this article is that it is written for professionals rather than the general audience. In particular, this research article will assist me in examining the effect of knowledge management on both individual and organizational performance.

Wang, H-C. (2014). Distinguishing the adoption of business intelligence systems from their implementation: The role of managers’ personality profiles. Behavior & Information Technology, 33(19), 1082-1092.

            The purpose of this research article was to advance the argument that the individual manager’s intention of adopting business intelligence (BI) systems is different from organizational adoption intention. Wang conducted a thorough literature review in order to build the research hypothesis. The key ideas expressed in this article are that the implementation of BI systems is based on the managers’ individual decisions and those decisions are influenced by the managers’ innovativeness. The author’s claims were supported by empirical data gathered from 62 senior managers of leading organizations in Taiwan and China. The author provides a strong theoretical background which is supported by empirical evidence from real life-scenario. Since the information presented in the article is up-to-date and from a reliable journal, it will be helpful for my research. In particular, the article provides an insight on the BI system which is an important tool in strategic planning.  

Herzallah, A. M. Gutierrez- Gutierrez, L. & Rosas, J. F. M. (2014). Total quality management practices, competitive strategies and financial performance: The case of the Palestinian industrial SMEs. Total Quality Management, 25(6), 635-649.

            In this article, the authors examine the correlation between competitive strategies (differentiation and cost leadership), total quality management practices (soft and hard practices) and organizational performance. The authors conducted a thorough literature review on competitive strategies and total quality management before formulating the relevant research hypothesis. The main ideas expressed by the hypothesis are that both competitive strategies and total quality management practices are positively correlated to the organizational performance. In order to validate the hypothesis, the authors conducted a survey on 20 employees from various organizations in Palestine. They found out that proper implementation of total quality management practices including customer focus, employee training, and process management results in increased organizational performance. The authors provide a strong theoretical background based on a thorough literature review and validated through empirical research. The information contained in the article is useful for my research topic because total quality management is an integral part of business management systems in organizations.
