Title: A study of congruence and semantic relatedness in the Stroop effect. Overview: This report allows you to explore aspects of the degree covered in other units, specifically research methods and analysis to explore the Stroop effect across congruence and semantic relatedness with level four psychology undergraduates. ABSTRACT Summary of all sections. INTRODUCTION Overview of the Stroop effect in relation to congruence and semantic relatedness. What is the Stroop effect? What causes the Stroop effect? Explain the role of automaticity using research to support your argument. What evidence exists to support its effect with congruent/incongruent words and semantically related and unrelated words? Demonstrate with evidence from the literature Hypotheses: Task completion time for the congruent and semantically related conditions will be lower than those in the incongruent and semantically unrelated conditions. METHOD SECTION Provide 4 separate sections (Design, Participants, Materials, Procedure). Design: State the research design; explain the variables in the study (Independent and Dependent variables). Participants: participant details, broken down in terms of gender, mean age and standard deviation of the age. Materials: describe the materials used to conduct the study; the powerpoint slides, the scoring sheet and any other equipment that was used to conduct the study. You should describe the materials in enough detail to enable others to replicate the study. You should give minimum and maximum possible scores. Procedure: Step by step description of how the data was collected, stating the treatment of ethical issues. RESULTS SECTION You should report an in depth account of the descriptive statistics including means and standard deviations of dependent variables and explain how they differ from one another, in line with the hypotheses. You should include a bar chart with error bars that is correctly labeled. You may include a table of relevant information but DO NOT COPY SPSS TABLES, please create your own. DISCUSSION State whether hypothesis has been accepted (NOTE: This should not be done in the results section. Relate this study back to previous studies or theories. Include evaluation of previous studies, theories, and present study. Include ideas for future studies. REFERENCES Give full reference (APA style) of all the sources you cited throughout the report.
