CUTANEOUS GLANDS. Merocrine sweat glands, apocrine sweat glands, sebaceous glands, ceruminous glands, and mammary glands are the five types of glands found on the skin. The glands are always unicellular, reside in connective tissue, and discharge through pores that pass between epidermal cells; some are club-shaped, while others are polygonal and have a distinct and usually lengthy duct. To begin with, there are two kinds of sweet glands: apocrine and merocrine. In adult men, it can be found in the groin, anal region, axilla, areola, and beard area. (Not to the skin’s surface). Sweat that is heavy and milky is produced. These are smell glands that respond to sexual excitement and tension. Until puberty, not active. Women’s activity ebbs and flows with their menstrual cycle. It’s thought that they emit pheromones, which are molecules that can influence other people’s behavior. Second, there are sebaceous glands, which can be found in a variety of beauty products. These glands contain short ducts that enter hair follicles and are flask-shaped. Prevents dryness, brittleness, and cracking of the skin and hair. The Ceruminous glands are the third type of gland. External ear canals contain these glands. Keeps the eardrum flexible, protects the canal from water and kills microorganisms. The Mammary Glands are the last one, and only females have active mammary glands. Milk is produced by mammary glands, which only form during pregnancy and lactation.

Critical thinking: Sebaceous glands and sweat glands are two types of cutaneous glands that are both present in the dermis. Except on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet, sebaceous glands, or oil glands, are located all over the skin. Sebaceous glands generate sebum, an oily mixture of shattered cells that maintains the skin supple and moist and keeps hair from becoming brittle. Sweat glands, the second type of cutaneous gland, are widely distributed in the skin and play a vital role in the body’s heat-regulating system.
