Significance of Emotional Intelligence in Workplace Productivity

Significance of Emotional Intelligence in Workplace Productivity

Research Question

The research topic being explored delves into the importance of intelligence in

increasing productivity in the workplace. Specifically, it aims to uncover how emotional

SIGNFICANCE EMOTIONAL INTRLLIGENCE IN WORKPLACE PRODUCTIVITY 2

intelligence influences employee’s productivity within a work environment. The main research

question guiding this study is “How does emotional intelligence impact employee productivity in

the workplace?” To address this question a mixed methods approach incorporating both

quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques has been chosen as the

research methodology.

Within this study two opposing hypotheses have been developed to examine the

relationship between intelligence and workplace productivity. The null hypothesis (H0) suggests

that there is no correlation between intelligence and workplace productivity implying that

emotional intelligence does not influence employee productivity. On the hand the alternative

hypothesis (H1) proposes that there is an association between emotional intelligence and

workplace productivity (Ivanov et al., 2020). According to this hypothesis higher levels of

intelligence among employees are linked to increased productivity in the workplace. This study

seeks to explore and understand the relationship between intelligence and workplace

productivity. By utilizing a mixed methods approach and investigating these hypotheses this

study aims to contribute insights into how intelligence can enhance employee productivity across

different organizational settings.

Research Approach

This study aims to gain an understanding of the link between emotional intelligence and

workplace productivity by using a mixed methods approach. This approach combines qualitative

methods to capture all the nuances that a single method may miss (Navas et al., 2022). By

gathering measurements and conducting analysis through quantitative data collection we can

establish patterns and correlations that shed light on the nature and strength of the relationship

between emotional intelligence and workplace productivity (Weyant, 2022). At the time

SIGNFICANCE EMOTIONAL INTRLLIGENCE IN WORKPLACE PRODUCTIVITY 3

qualitative data collection, which involves interviews and ended questionnaires allows us to

delve deeper into employees experiences, perceptions and qualitative aspects of emotional

intelligence, in the workplace. This approach helps us examine the underlying mechanisms and

contextual factors that influence this relationship (Ivanov et al., 2020).

These insights offer an understanding of the findings allowing us to grasp how emotional

intelligence operates in real workplace settings. The research methodology employed here is

based on pragmatism, an approach that emphasizes practicality and the use of methods to

effectively address real world issues. Pragmatism aligns well with the mixed methods approach

as it encourages researchers to be practical selecting methods that best suit their research

questions and goals (Supramaniam & Singaravelloo 2021). This approach recognizes that social

science research questions often have dimensions and can benefit from both qualitative

perspectives. In this study we take a stance to not provide theoretical insights but also offer

practical solutions and recommendations, for improving workplace productivity through a better

understanding of emotional intelligence.
